Merrimack Cardinals   Football & Cheerleading Program

The Cardinals program strives to provide an opportunity to cheer and play football in an organized, safe environment, with an emphasis on fun and participation for all team members. The program encourages academic excellence and endeavors to develop self-discipline, personal fitness, teamwork, concentration, leadership, and good sportsmanship. Each year, many Cardinals receive program-wide and league-wide recognition of academic achievement.

Merrimack’s Most Successful Travel Sports Program

The Cardinals’ proud tradition dates back to 1973. Both the cheerleading and football teams have won many honors and championships at the state, regional, and national levels.

In 2011, all Cardinals football teams competed very successfully, with our Pee Wee squad advancing to the State Championship game, hosted right here in Merrimack.  The programs greatest successes in 2011 were with our Cheer teams.  The Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee, and Jr. Midget teams all won State Championships at the competition at SNHU, with the Jr. Midgets named Grand Champion for their division at this event.  This Jr. Midget team advanced through the Regional Qualifiers and Regional Competition and earned the right to represent New Hampshire in the National Competition held in December at Disney World in Florida.  Facing competition from all over the country, our Cardinals placed 5th from a field of 15 teams in their division.  An absolutely incredible accomplishment for sure!

The 2010 season was one filled with Cardinal firsts.  Our Tiny Mites fielded two teams, the first time ever since the introduction of this level four years ago.  Our Mitey Mites had an 8-1 regular season record.  Our Junior High team became State Champions in the second division of the NJHFL.  Our Pee Wee cheer team became N.H. state champions after battling some tough competition at SNHU.  Our Midget cheer team was granted 2nd place at the N.H. state championships for 2010.

2008 was another successful season.  Our Tiny Mites battled each week in their first year, and our Mitey Mites had an 8-0 Undefeated record.  The Junior Pee Wee’s finished as a 7-1 regular season Conference Champion and competed for a State Championship. The Pee Wee’s finished with a 5-3 record and Won the 2008 NH State Championship. Our Junior Midget and Junior High teams had winning records and competed in playoffs. Our Midget team had a 7-4 season record competing against premiere Div1 teams from Massachusetts and were crowned NH Champions.  Our Junior Pee Wee, Pee Wee and Midget Cheer teams all were crowned NH State Champions in their respective divisions and competed at the regional level.

In 2007 Our Varsity Cheer Team were New England Regional Champions, the Peewee Cheer Team was New England Runner ups and Pee Wee Cheer Were NH State Champions. The Cardinal Pee Wee Football Team completed an 8-0 Season and were Div 1A Conference Co-Champions, and The JV football Team was the Granite State Champs for the second year in a row.

In 2006, cheerleading teams were awarded 2nd and 3rd place at the state competition and went on to the New England Regional Competition at the Verizon Center in Manchester. The Pee Wee football team was the NH Division 1 Champion and made it to the finals of the New England playoffs.

Be a part of our Winning Team !!!

The Cardinals Football & Spirit Program belongs to both New Hampshire Pop Warner and the Northeast Junior High Football League (NJHFL).

Pop Warner offers spirit and football at multiple levels for ages 5 through 15 (age as of July 31st). Football teams are also classified by weight limits. The levels fielded by the Cardinals in any given year depend on registration. In 2008 we introduced the Tiny Mite level of Tackle Football and Cheerleading for ages 5-7yrs with outstanding results.

The NJHFL consists of teams from northern Mass, southern NH, and the Seacoast region.  The league prepares middle school age players for high school football in a varsity/junior varsity format. There are no weight limits. Players must be in Grade 8 or lower and must be age 14 or less as of October 1st. Practice requirements are similar to that described for Pop Warner; practice begins in mid-August.

Spirit teams cheer at all football games and compete in the state cheering competition. They also have the possibility of competing in regional Competitions as well as Other Local Competitions.
